Frequently
asked questions

I know that searching for a photographer can be daunting and stressful. My goal is to give you every bit of information that you need to feel confident in your decision.

What types of sessions do you offer?

Although there isn't much I say no to, I primarily photograph maternity, newborn, babies, family and high school seniors. If you're looking for a wedding photographer, I'll be happy to refer you to other spectacular photographers in the area.

Where can my session take place?

Sessions can take place in the studio, in your home or at an outdoor location. I do offer location recommendations to all of my clients after scheduling.

3

Where is your studio located?

My studio is located in the Northland, north of 152, about halfway in between Liberty and Zona Rosa.

4

What happens if the weather is bad?

There is always a chance for the weather to not cooperate on the day of your session. That's ok! You will have the choice to move your session into the studio or I will offer a few dates to reschedule. I watch the weather like crazy so if I see something in the forecast, I'll reach out a few days in advance to start chatting about your plan B.

5

How would you describe your style?

I don't prefer posed pictures. That's not how I want to remember my family. We're not stiff and posed and we don't always smile all the time. My guess is that your family is the same! I do include posed pictures within each session because someone that you are purchasing photos for will want them! The majority of my sessions start with a few posed shots and then the remainder of our time will be spent with your family loving on each other.

6

How long have you been a photographer?

April 2024 marks 18 years. My business has lived through the growth of my family, the financial crisis of 2008 and a global pandemic. Although I am a mom, I'm not JUST a mom-with-a-camera. My knowledge and experience in the business of photography spans over 25 years.

How do I know what session is best?

With the exception of my newborn sessions, the process of choosing your session is kind-of a "choose your own adventure". Start with the who. Will I be photographing a high school senior, a 6 month old baby, a family of 20, etc? Then decide the best time frame. I offer both 30 minute and 60 minute sessions. Thirty minutes is great for 1-2 kiddos, a family with older kids, a maternity momma. Sixty minutes is best for families with more than 2 kiddos, families with little kids who may take awhile to warm up, a senior with 3-4 outfit changes. All sessions include the session fee and a designated number of digital images that are fulfilled through a digital download. You will see your entire gallery of images to choose from. If you can't decide, there will be options to upgrade your package or add physical products to your order.

8

How many images will I be able to view?

A 30 minute session yields around 30 images.

A 60 minute session yields around 50 images.

Newborn sessions vary but can include up to 100 images.

9

How far in advance do I need to schedule?

Some seasons fill up sooner than others. My schedule is generally open 3 months in advance. If you need a weekend appointment, scheduling as soon as possible is best. Weeknight sessions are best scheduled 2-3 weeks out. Weekday sessions can be scheduled the week of in most cases.

Maternity sessions are best scheduled between 32 and 36 weeks.

Newborn sessions are best scheduled between 7 and 10 days. See the newborn experience page for more information!

When is the best time for an outdoor session?

Any day that is 50 degrees or warmer is a good day! It really depends on what you're looking for.

Spring: Kansas City typically doesn't get pretty and green until late April. Flowering trees usually bloom in mid-April.

Summer: Summer sessions are best scheduled late in the evening for a few reasons: the temperature and lighting.

Fall: Fall foliage is best captured in late October and early November.

Winter: I do offer snow sessions when the conditions present themselves. Urban sessions are great for winter sessions when the temperature allows.

How much will it cost?

Investing in a photography session for the chapter that you are in is important. It is an acknowledgment that there is something special about the period of time you are experiencing and it's worth being remembered. It could be the birth of your new baby, the last year that you have your whole family at home, the meeting of generations. At the end of our lives, 2 things remain on earth: our legacy and our photographs.

While the packages you have to choose from include digital images, they also include hand chosen products that will become heirlooms in your home for years to come.

Family sessions average $450. I would be happy to provide you with a custom quote for you and start planning your session!
